Dubai's remote work visa route provides renewable one-year residence for people working remotely for an organisation outside the UAE, with monthly income of at least USD 3,500 or equivalent. GDRFA publishes a separate entry stage allowing 60 days from arrival to complete residence requirements. These are distinct stages, according to its entry and residence cards, verified 19 October 2026.

The moving-to-Dubai guide connects this residence route with the wider sequence of identity records, schools and home setup.

Who can apply?

The route matches someone working remotely for an organisation outside the UAE who can document the required monthly income. GDRFA, Dubai's General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, describes residence without a guarantor or host inside the country. Its residence conditions, as of October 2026, require remote work for an organisation outside the UAE and income of at least USD 3,500 per month or equivalent.

For an overseas employee keeping that employment arrangement, these are the relevant work and income questions. Other arrangements have their own records:

This residence file does not, by itself, settle the permissions for a proposed UAE job, freelance activity or business. The relevant employment or licensing authority confirms that arrangement.

What income and overseas-work evidence is required?

The income test is at least USD 3,500 per month or the equivalent in other currencies; the evidence also has to establish remote work for an organisation outside the UAE. The entry card asks for evidence of that work and monthly income. The residence card expressly lists a salary certificate. Both were verified in October 2026.

For an employee, the evidence therefore needs to answer distinct questions: which organisation employs them, where that organisation is based, whether the work is performed remotely, and what monthly income is documented. GDRFA or an Amer centre, one of the application-service centres listed on the cards, can confirm the accepted document format for the particular file.

The selected cards do not prescribe a universal bank-statement period, payslip count or minimum employment-contract duration. They also do not specify the exchange-rate date or calculation method for income in another currency. Those remain evidence questions for the application channel, rather than extra eligibility rules added here.

The entry requirements, as of October 2026, separately specify a passport valid for at least 6 months, the photograph and valid health insurance. Meeting the income amount alone does not establish that the complete file meets the authority's requirements.

Is the entry visa the residence permit?

The entry card describes a stay of 60 days from the date of entry while residence requirements are completed. The renewable one-year residence belongs to the separate residence-permit service. That distinction follows the entry description and residence description, as of October 2026.

Although the entry card uses residence terminology and also mentions the route's extendable one-year residence period, its service description concerns the interval for completing residence requirements. It does not establish another completed one-year permit alongside the residence service.

For example, an employee may have an approved entry document while their medical-fitness result and ID receipt remain outstanding. Those documents appear on the residence checklist. The entry approval and the completed residence record therefore answer different questions.

The 60-day wording cited here runs from entry. It is not a statement about how long an unused entry document remains valid before travel. The issued document and GDRFA's current instructions establish that applicant's dates.

How do you apply and complete residence?

GDRFA publishes digital and Amer channels for entry; its residence card also lists Customer Happiness Centres. The digital procedure is to log in, select the service, complete the application data and pay the applicable fee. These are the steps on the entry and residence cards, verified October 2026.

  1. Confirm the application stage

Identify whether the file concerns entry, residence issuance or renewal. For someone already in the UAE, GDRFA or Amer can confirm the applicable in-country action and charges against the existing immigration record.

  2. Complete the relevant document file

The entry list and residence list are shown separately above. For residence, the medical-fitness result and ID receipt remain named requirements. GDRFA can identify the accepted ID receipt and any supporting-service steps for the applicant's case.

  3. Submit and follow the service record

Use a channel listed on the relevant card, complete the requested data and retain the application reference and fee assessment. The residence decision and issued permit complete a different stage from the entry decision.

The entry card, residence card and renewal card each post an expected completion time of 48 hours, as of October 2026. That is each named service's published target. It does not supply an end-to-end timetable for collecting evidence, medical appointments, identity services, travel and moving home.

What are the fee components?

GDRFA publishes separate entry and residence schedules, so the fee line needs to stay attached to its service. Neither schedule establishes a complete relocation or application price.

For the base entry fee and its VAT alone, the arithmetic is AED 200 × 5% = AED 10 VAT; AED 200 + AED 10 = AED 210. This calculation uses the entry card's posted inputs, verified October 2026. It prices that line only. Applicable additional charges and other services remain separate.

The residence cards do not reproduce the entry card's express VAT statement or its conditional heading for all additional fees. Their schedules are reported as printed; that wording does not establish a tax exemption or determine every charge on an individual invoice.

Both residence cards also carry a fee note stating an AED 100 increase for each year when residence exceeds two years, as of October 2026. The virtual-work residence description is for a renewable one-year permit. The general fee note is not evidence of a longer virtual-work permit, and no duration adjustment is calculated here.

Which documents are needed for renewal?

Renewal is subject to the same terms as initial issuance, and GDRFA's renewal card lists the supporting documents again. Its renewal requirements and conditions, as of October 2026, name:

  • A colour personal photograph.
  • A copy of the applicant's passport.
  • A copy of health insurance.
  • The medical-fitness test result.
  • Proof of remote work outside the UAE.
  • A salary certificate documenting at least USD 3,500 monthly or equivalent, read alongside the card's income condition.
  • An ID receipt.

The same card says compulsory and optional documents may differ according to the data entered. The earlier approval therefore does not establish that a later renewal's evidence is complete. The application channel confirms the accepted documents and any additional records for the renewal file.

The residence-issuance card and renewal card both state a 60-day grace period after residence expiry or cancellation, as of October 2026. This is the wording of those residence services. It concerns a different event from the entry card's period after arrival. GDRFA confirms the deadline attached to the actual immigration record; the statement does not itself renew the permit.

What does family sponsorship require checking?

The entry card says the holder can sponsor family for the same residence period. That statement appears on GDRFA's virtual-work entry service, verified October 2026. It does not provide a complete dependent-application checklist or decide an individual family member's application.

For a household planning to move together, the unresolved questions for GDRFA or Amer include:

  • Which family relationships and age conditions apply to each dependent's selected service?
  • Which relationship documents, translations or attestations are accepted?
  • What financial and housing evidence applies to a virtual-work resident sponsoring family?
  • Which insurance, medical and identity records apply to each person, and what are their separate charges?
  • How does the principal holder's remaining residence period affect the dependent's issue or renewal dates?

These are verification questions, not an imported dependent checklist. The family visa guide gives context on employee-family sponsorship and its document categories. Its employee-sponsor salary tests belong to that route; GDRFA confirms the virtual-worker family's conditions.

How does residence fit the Dubai housing plan?

Residence evidence, tenancy dates and household costs are separate parts of a move. The published income threshold is an application condition, rather than a household spending budget.

For an employee keeping overseas working hours, a home layout with a separate work area is a closer fit to that routine. A family also has school journeys and bedroom needs to compare. The practical housing record can put the proposed tenancy dates beside the actual residence issue and expiry dates, with rent, bills and moving costs recorded separately from permit fees.

Remote-work visa questions, checked 19 October 2026

Can I work remotely from Dubai?

GDRFA's virtual-work residence service, as of October 2026, concerns remote work for an organisation outside the UAE, subject to its income and evidence conditions. A proposed UAE employment or licensed business activity has its own authorisation questions.

How much does it cost to get a remote work visa in Dubai?

The entry card lists AED 200 plus 5% VAT and conditional in-country charges. The residence card has its own components, as of October 2026. These are separate service schedules; a complete package including medical, identity and insurance costs has not been verified.

Do I need a visa if I work remotely?

For the overseas employee planning to live in Dubai, GDRFA publishes the virtual-work residence route, verified October 2026. The applicable route depends on the person's work arrangement and immigration record. GDRFA can confirm the entry and residence actions for that file; an entry document alone does not establish completed residence.

How long does Dubai remote work visa processing take?

The entry, residence and renewal cards each publish 48 hours as their expected service completion time, as of October 2026. That target does not cover the whole document, appointment and relocation sequence.
