Table of contents
IFZA company setup follows a 6-stage published formation route, from a tailored proposal to an emailed licence. As of 29 October 2026, IFZA says incorporation requires no physical presence. The shareholder documents, activity approvals and quoted services still need to match the application; residence and banking have separate requirements. Source: IFZA's current setup page.

What can an IFZA licence cover?
IFZA's current setup page describes professional services, commercial trading and a branch option for an existing foreign company. A free zone is a designated business jurisdiction within the UAE; the proposal still needs to identify the approved activity and company structure. The table reflects IFZA's published options, as of October 2026.

IFZA also publishes flexibility to combine multiple activities under a licence. That statement does not confirm a particular combination: the written proposal and approval need to name it. A consultancy founder's service description, a trader's goods and a foreign company's branch enquiry therefore start with different scope questions.
For a founder planning a home move, the workspace line matters separately. An office or shared-workspace service in a company proposal does not describe a residential tenancy. Home rent, deposits and the eventual commute belong in the household plan.
Can IFZA incorporation be completed remotely?
Yes. IFZA expressly states that physical presence is not required during incorporation and describes electronic signing and licence delivery by email. This is its published company-formation route, verified on the current setup page in October 2026.
The practical confirmation is file-specific: who uploads the records, who receives each signing request, and whether the chosen activity or shareholder structure creates additional approval or document-handling steps. A branch applicant needs a branch-specific answer; the individual and corporate shareholder table below describes company-formation checklists.
Remote incorporation does not establish remote immigration completion, bank-account approval or permission for every proposed activity. Those outcomes need their own application conditions. A founder can therefore plan the formation file from overseas while keeping arrival dates and home commitments separate from any unconfirmed residence or banking milestone.
Which documents differ by shareholder type?
Individual shareholders provide personal and application records; IFZA's older corporate-shareholder checklist adds records for the company that will own the shares. An individual shareholder is a person holding shares directly. A corporate shareholder is an existing company holding them.
The detailed source is IFZA's registration explainer, published 22 December 2022, re-read on 29 October 2026. Its status matters: the current setup page, checked October 2026, repeats the core application, passport, photograph and UAE-resident records, and says supporting documents vary by shareholder type. It does not reproduce the detailed corporate list. The older detail is a preparation checklist to confirm for the present application, not an exhaustive current instruction.
UBO means ultimate beneficial owner, the person who ultimately owns or controls the business. Emirates ID is the UAE identity card.
Source: withlida.com, 29 October 2026. Detailed columns reproduce the scope of IFZA's 22 December 2022 checklist; current-overview confirmations come from the setup page. Both sources are linked above.
For an overseas founder holding shares personally, the resident-ID row is conditional; a non-resident does not acquire an Emirates ID requirement merely because that row appears in the table. If an overseas company will hold the shares instead, the additional corporate records become the relevant preparation path, subject to current confirmation.
The file-specific document request can also settle whether any originals, attestation, translation or representative-authority records are needed. The two pages do not establish those as universal requirements, so they are questions for IFZA or its Professional Partner, the business setup consultant assisting the application.
What are the IFZA company setup steps?
IFZA publishes the same formation sequence for individual and corporate shareholders, with different supporting documents. Its current six-stage outline includes separate legal-form and constitutional-document signatures. Source: IFZA, as of October 2026.
Consultation and tailored proposal
The assisting business setup consultant establishes the requirements. IFZA describes a proposal covering licence type, business activities, visa package and office solutions. The quotation can then identify the shareholder structure and separately payable services.
Prepare the application records
The applicant supplies the application with UBO information and the relevant supporting records. UAE-resident records and activity approvals are included only where applicable. Corporate ownership needs its own confirmed document request.
Portal processing and legal forms
The shareholders' documents are registered on the portal. After approval at this stage, the authority issues two electronic legal forms for signature before incorporation documents are issued.
Authority licence approval
The authority approves the application. The proposal can identify who will communicate approval and deliver the issued records.
Electronic constitutional-document signatures
IFZA says the new company's digital MOA/AOA documents, its constitutional documents, are sent to all shareholders for electronic signatures. These are distinct from the existing corporate shareholder's documents in the checklist above.
Licence issuance
A digital licence copy is emailed. IFZA says the original is available for collection from its office on request.
The current outline does not establish a fixed end-to-end completion time or a payable tariff. A dated proposal can state the payment triggers, approval dependencies, document acceptance and expected schedule for the actual file. The older explainer's timing language is not a current service commitment.
What must the setup and renewal quote include?
A usable quote separates the licence, incorporation, workspace, residence services, renewal and applicable tax treatment. As of 29 October 2026, the cited official pages do not provide a current payable tariff. The worksheet therefore keeps every amount as quote required. IFZA's current proposal scope and older fee discussion, dated 22 December 2022, identify scope questions without establishing a current amount due.
Worked scope, hypothetical: an overseas founder will hold shares personally, requests a consultancy activity subject to confirmation, asks for shared workspace and pricing for one founder residence application, and wants banking assistance priced separately. The residence request is an assumption for the quotation, not an entitlement. Every row below is a request for a price and applicability decision, not a claim that a fee is payable.
Source: withlida.com, 29 October 2026. Original quotation worksheet informed by the IFZA sources linked above; it is not IFZA's tariff or a statement that every listed service applies.
For this example, initial-period cash equals the applicable setup components, selected services, invoiced taxes and payable deposits. Each charge enters the total once. Where a package bundles a component, the quote needs to identify its parent line rather than add the same amount again. Until those amounts are supplied, the result remains quote required.
The renewal-period total adds the licence and workspace renewals, recurring administration and compliance services, any immigration or residence renewal falling due in that period, applicable invoiced taxes and payable deposits. A residence service may have a different renewal date from the licence; the quote needs to state which period each amount buys. This result also remains quote required.
Business tax liability is distinct from tax charged on a supplier's invoice and from a fee for tax-compliance services. It cannot be calculated from an unpriced formation worksheet. The corporate-tax process is linked below.
What remains separate from residence and banking?
Licence issuance records a company-formation milestone. It does not establish permission to reside, completion of bank checks or the company's tax treatment. Those processes have different evidence and decision makers.
Residence: the proposal's visa-package line needs to identify the applicant's route and what is being provided. For employee applications, GDRFA Dubai publishes a separate private-sector residence service, checked October 2026. The employment and residence guide explains that employee process. A founder's own investor or partner application needs its applicable category confirmed separately; the employee process is not a universal founder checklist.
Corporate banking: IFZA's banking-service page, checked October 2026, says documents vary by bank and company structure. Its common individual-shareholder list includes the official signatory's valid Emirates ID and UAE mobile number, alongside company records and a unit lease agreement. It also lists residential-address proof for that signatory if required. These are banking-document examples, not additions to every formation file. A separately priced assistance service does not establish account approval or identical remote conditions.
Personal banking: the Dubai bank-account guide covers personal accounts for household payments. It does not establish corporate-account eligibility. The bank's own application and product terms determine what the founder can use for rent and other home payments.
Corporate tax: the Ministry of Finance's corporate-tax page, checked October 2026, places free-zone legal entities within corporate-tax scope and says taxable persons, including free-zone persons, must register. Qualifying free-zone treatment depends on conditions and qualifying income. The UAE corporate-tax guide covers that distinct process. A formation invoice is not a determination of the business's tax position.
For a founder moving to Dubai, these separate milestones explain why a company licence, a residence approval and a usable household bank account need separate entries in the move calendar. The home budget can then show rent and deposits alongside the business costs without assuming that one application completes the others.
