To open a personal bank account in Dubai, match the product to your residence status. HSBC’s Personal Banking Account accepts residents or residency in progress and publishes an AED 3,000 average monthly AED-account balance condition for avoiding service fees. CBD’s Savings Account includes non-residents. These published conditions were accessed on 15 October 2026.

Can a non-resident open an account?

Yes, some published personal savings-account routes include non-residents. That does not make every current account available to someone visiting Dubai.

CBD’s Savings Account page, as of October 2026, explicitly includes non-UAE residents aged at least 18 and provides a separate document list. Its linked Key Facts Statement makes non-resident access subject to approval.

ADIB’s Savings Account page, as of October 2026, lists passports for non-residents, alongside its resident and UAE-national document categories. The linked ADIB KFS explicitly states that the Savings Account can be opened for UAE nationals, residents and non-residents.

HSBC’s example here serves a different applicant status: its Personal Banking Account requires UAE residence or residency in progress, as of October 2026. “New to the UAE” is its document route within that eligibility statement. A passport alone does not establish eligibility for this product.

For someone remaining non-resident, CBD’s separately published file and ADIB’s non-resident category are relevant examples to discuss with the banks. For someone whose residency is progressing, HSBC publishes a specific new-arrival sequence. The distinction concerns eligibility and evidence, rather than a bank ranking.

What documents are needed?

The document file depends on both the account and the applicant’s status. The lists below reproduce the scope of the banks’ published requirements as of October 2026.

HSBC residents: physical passport, physical Emirates ID, income proof and UAE residential-address proof. Its income examples include a salary certificate or bank statement dated within the last 3 months. For a business owner applying for this personal account, HSBC lists the company’s last 3 months of bank statements. Its address examples include a utility bill, tenancy contract, Ejari number, title deed or employer letter. Source: HSBC product page, accessed 15 October 2026.

Ejari is Dubai’s tenancy-registration system. Its registration guide explains that separate housing record. HSBC’s list contains several address-evidence alternatives, so it does not establish that an applicant must own a home.

HSBC new arrivals: physical passport and proof of income are the shorter list shown under “New to the UAE”. The residence-status requirement and subsequent identity checks still apply. Source: HSBC, as of October 2026.

CBD residents: completed account-opening form, Emirates ID, national passport / ID and residence visa. CBD non-residents: completed form, national passport / ID, address proof and bank statements. CBD says additional documents may be requested under bank policy. The page does not specify a statement-history period for that non-resident list. Source: CBD, as of October 2026.

ADIB: passport for UAE nationals, residents and non-residents; valid Emirates ID for UAE nationals and residents. Its page asks joint applicants to bring all original passports and have all account holders present. The published list is a starting record for the bank’s application checks. Source: ADIB, as of October 2026.

Is Emirates ID required immediately?

HSBC publishes a conditional route before the card is available; CBD’s and ADIB’s cited pages list ID for their resident routes without publishing the same grace period.

Emirates ID is the UAE identity card issued by ICP, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security. Source: UAE Government Emirates ID record, as of October 2026.

For an applicant who has applied for a residency visa and lacks Emirates ID, HSBC’s product page gives 75 days from account opening to provide it, as of October 2026. After that, digital payments and card use are unavailable until HSBC receives the ID.

There is also an earlier verification condition: HSBC states that debits are restricted until documents are verified. An opened account and an account ready for outgoing payments can therefore represent different stages.

The linked HSBC current-account KFS, accessed 15 October 2026, gives fuller follow-up terms. For residency-in-progress openings, it expects a valid residency visa and Emirates ID biometric validation through Aramex within 75 days. It states that the account may then be blocked and subsequently closed if the requirements remain outstanding.

That is HSBC’s published sequence. The CBD and ADIB resident document lists, as of October 2026, do not establish an equivalent deferred-ID arrangement.

Can it be opened online?

The banks advertise digital application channels, but a digital starting point does not establish that every applicant can complete remotely.

HSBC, as of October 2026, directs applicants to the HSBC UAE app and also offers a branch route. In-app opening is in English. Its product page separately requires joint applicants to complete opening personally at a branch or customer service centre.

CBD’s Savings Account page, as of October 2026, links to an online application form. Its separate non-resident eligibility and document list do not, by themselves, establish that a non-resident can complete every check from abroad.

ADIB, as of October 2026, lists an online/app-linked application and a branch option. Its joint-account instructions require all holders to be present.

The useful channel confirmation is specific: whether this applicant can complete this product through the app or form, how originals are checked, and whether attendance is required. The cited pages do not support one approval timeline covering all three banks.

What do minimum balances and service fees mean?

A minimum-balance condition measures money held in the account. A service fee is a charge. Keeping a balance is not the same as spending that amount.

Bank’s published figureWhat it measuresQualification
HSBC: AED 3,000Average monthly balance in an AED account for its published service-fee conditionThe linked KFS identifies its monthly balance-fee row for non-salary-transfer customers
CBD: AED 5,000Minimum monthly average balance for its monthly service-fee conditionProduct page states waivers for salary transfer of at least AED 5,000 or a loan/finance with CBD
ADIB: AED 5,000Minimum monthly balance to be eligible to earn profitThis figure does not establish an opening-funding requirement or service-fee waiver

Source: withlida.com, 15 October 2026, from the HSBC, CBD and ADIB product pages, as of October 2026.

An average balance measures a period. The balance shown after a rent payment or on the final day of the month does not, alone, describe that period’s average. The bank’s calculation method and the relevant account currency matter.

A waiver has conditions. CBD’s product page dates its minimum AED 5,000 salary-transfer waiver to 1 August 2024 and also lists a loan/finance waiver, checked as of October 2026. Its KFS contains further product- and segment-dependent terms. A waiver tied to one condition does not remove every possible service charge.

HSBC’s KFS, as of October 2026, labels its monthly current-account balance-fee row for non-salary-transfer customers. It defines salary as a regular monthly transfer carrying a salary transaction description, with allowances or incentives counted when part of that same payment. The bank can confirm the treatment of the applicant’s salary credits and any applicable waiver. This does not establish a universal salary threshold.

Profit eligibility answers another question. ADIB’s stated balance concerns eligibility to earn profit. Its Savings Account uses Mudaraba, under which profit sharing and losses are governed by the Banking Service Agreement. Its KFS separately addresses account financial terms. The product-page profit figure cannot be substituted for those terms.

The relevant fee record is the chosen bank’s current KFS and tariff. HSBC’s linked Schedule of Services and Tariffs is effective 6 October 2026, accessed 15 October 2026. The applicable product row and any waiver conditions determine the fee treatment.

How does a new arrival’s document file change?

In HSBC’s published sequence, the passport-and-income file develops into a resident file with physical Emirates ID and UAE address evidence. This hypothetical example follows the bank’s stated requirements as of October 2026.

  1. Residency is in progress

An applicant who has applied for UAE residence prepares a physical passport and income evidence using HSBC’s “New to the UAE” list. The bank confirms eligibility and any further information needed. This is the shorter document route, not a recorded approval.

  2. Opening and verification are recorded separately

If the account is opened, its opening date becomes the reference for HSBC’s ID follow-up period. The applicant also records whether the bank has completed document verification, because the product page restricts debits until that check is complete.

  3. Residency and Emirates ID become available

The file gains the valid residence visa and physical Emirates ID for the bank’s stated follow-up checks, including the KFS’s biometric-validation condition. HSBC’s resident list also includes UAE address evidence. An employer letter or tenancy record is among its published address alternatives.

  4. The payment status is confirmed

The applicant confirms that HSBC has received and validated the outstanding records and that the required payment functions are available. The 75-day condition is measured from account opening, not from signing a lease or receiving the card.

Source for this editorial worked sequence: HSBC product page and current-account KFS, accessed 15 October 2026. It does not predict an applicant’s outcome or completion time.

A person remaining non-resident has a separate example in CBD’s Savings Account: form, national passport / ID, address proof and bank statements, as of October 2026. That is CBD’s own product route, rather than a stage that automatically converts HSBC’s file into another bank’s account.

What needs confirming before using it for home payments?

The account’s actual payment functions need to match the lease and household bills. A published debit-card benefit does not establish every payment method or transaction limit for the approved account.

An editorial home-payment checklist records:

  • The rent payment method and due dates written into the tenancy agreement.
  • Whether that method is available on the approved account, including any document-verification restriction.
  • The bank’s applicable payment limits, transfer charges and currency terms.
  • The balance condition or documented waiver that applies while household payments leave the account.
  • Any outstanding identity documents and the bank’s confirmation that they have been accepted.

For the product examples, HSBC publishes document-related debit restrictions; CBD lists transfers and standing instructions; ADIB lists standing instructions and an ATM card for AED currency only. These are the HSBC, CBD and ADIB conditions checked as of October 2026. The actual account terms establish the services available to the applicant.

Frequently asked questions, checked 15 October 2026

Can foreigners open a bank account in Dubai?

Yes, the cited products describe routes for different applicant statuses. CBD and ADIB include non-resident savings-account applicants; HSBC’s Personal Banking Account requires UAE residence or residency in progress. Approval remains bank-specific. Sources: CBD, ADIB KFS and HSBC, as of October 2026.

How much does it cost to open a bank account in Dubai?

Opening charges, funding requirements, ongoing balance conditions and service fees are separate questions. The product-page balance figures in the table are not amounts spent opening the account. The matching bank’s current KFS and tariff establish applicable charges; no city-wide opening cost follows from these examples. Sources are the product pages and linked fee records above, accessed 15 October 2026.

Can I open an account with no minimum balance?

A balance waiver depends on the product and the condition met. CBD’s cited page lists qualifying salary-transfer and loan/finance waivers. That does not establish that all services are without charges. Source: CBD product page, as of October 2026.

What salary is needed to open a personal account?

These records do not establish one salary threshold for all Dubai accounts. CBD’s stated salary amount is attached to its balance waiver. ADIB’s product-page balance figure concerns profit eligibility. Account eligibility, income evidence and waiver conditions need separate reading. Sources: CBD and ADIB, as of October 2026.

Which account is easiest to open?

The relevant comparison is between the applicant’s completed documents and the product’s published route. HSBC supplies a new-arrival list; CBD publishes separate resident and non-resident lists; ADIB identifies its own passport and ID categories. Those records do not establish a universal ease or speed ranking. Sources: the three product pages in the table, as of October 2026.
