Document attestation in Dubai goes through the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or MoFA, which authenticates signatures and seals. Its FAQ lists AED 150 for Individual Affairs Documents, including marriage, birth and educational records, as of October 2026. That is an attestation component; the complete cost depends on the document's route and included services. (MoFA service card, fee FAQ.)

The summary follows MoFA's service card and FAQ, as of October 2026. The family-visa guide explains relationship evidence for sponsorship; this page follows the attestation application itself.
What does document attestation prove?
Attestation certifies the authenticity of the signatures and seals on a document. That is MoFA's service definition, as of October 2026. It identifies the authentication being supplied, rather than deciding every requirement of the organisation receiving the record. (MoFA service card.)
For a marriage certificate, the attestation concerns the official signatures and seals. The certificate supplies the relationship evidence. For an educational record, attestation and the receiving institution's assessment of the qualification answer different questions. A completed attestation does not by itself settle a separate visa, school or employer application.
Translation is a separate task. It makes the document's content available in another language. MoFA's courier requirements specify an original in Arabic or English, or an original accompanied by a legally certified translation, as of October 2026. Attestation does not perform that translation. The receiving authority's language checklist remains relevant to the file. (MoFA document requirements.)
For the household, this creates distinct completion records: the required certificate, its applicable authentication trail, and any requested translation. Keeping those tasks visible alongside the travel date helps connect document readiness to the school and housing calendar in the moving-to-Dubai guide.
Where was the document issued?
The issuing country determines the starting branch, even when the document holder now lives in Dubai. MoFA separates UAE-issued documents from documents issued outside the UAE in its service process, as of October 2026. (MoFA service card.)
A foreign marriage certificate carried to Dubai remains foreign-issued. A UAE-issued record taken abroad remains UAE-issued. The applicant's current address and the language of the document do not change its issuer.
For foreign-issued documents, the card describes Attestation through UAE Missions Abroad. A mission is the UAE embassy or consulate handling the relevant overseas service. Electronic availability is limited to selected missions; the card directs applicants to the mission's website and, where the service is unavailable online, to an in-person mission visit. If no UAE mission is available in the country, MoFA directs the enquiry to its official support channels. These are the card's instructions as of October 2026, not a universal appointment arrangement. (MoFA overseas process.)
For UAE-issued documents, the actual issuing authority and document type determine the assigned handling method. Digital Attestation under this service concerns eligible UAE-issued digital documents intended for use outside the UAE. For a departing family, the destination country is therefore part of preparing the record, alongside the departure tasks in the leaving-Dubai checklist. (MoFA eligibility, as of October 2026.)
Which prior attestations apply?
MoFA's general foreign-issued chain runs through the issuing country's foreign ministry, the applicable UAE embassy or consulate, and MoFA in the UAE. Its FAQ sets out those stages, as of October 2026. The mission's requirements establish the preparation and submission details for that document. (MoFA preparation FAQ.)
For UAE-issued originals, the same FAQ describes governing-entity attestation, with an exception for government-issued digital documents or electronically attested documents. The current service card separately defines which original digital records qualify for its digital route. An educational certificate, birth certificate and marriage certificate do not acquire an identical preparation checklist simply because all are personal records. (MoFA FAQ, current service card, as of October 2026.)
Worked example: a foreign-issued marriage certificate for Dubai
This hypothetical household has a paper marriage certificate issued outside the UAE. The sequence below follows MoFA's general FAQ and service card, as of October 2026; it assumes no particular issuing country or country-specific charge.
Establish the certificate's preparation requirements
The household identifies the issuing authority and checks the applicable UAE mission's instructions. Any preliminary certification belongs to that country's and document's requirements. A notarial step is not assigned to every certificate by this guide.
Complete issuing-country foreign-ministry attestation
The original follows the issuing country's foreign-ministry process. The household retains the resulting authentication and the receipt or reference supplied for that stage.
Complete the applicable UAE-mission stage
The certificate proceeds through the UAE embassy or consulate in the issuing country under that mission's procedure. For an electronic mission application, MoFA's card describes submission, applicable payment and a confirmation containing the application reference.
Submit the final MoFA application in the UAE
The household uses MoFA's official website or UAE MOFA app for the UAE stage described in the FAQ. The paper original follows the displayed physical-handling instructions. The courier file requires the unlaminated original, applicable prior attestations and any legally certified translation needed under the service requirements.
Keep the completed file and separate cost records
The file contains the returned attested certificate, any required translation, references and receipts. Its cost ledger distinguishes issuing-country preparation, UAE-mission charges, the UAE attestation component and delivery. The selected service's inclusions determine which lines remain separately payable.

Contrast: a qualifying UAE-issued digital record for use abroad
A household leaving Dubai holds the original digital PDF of a UAE-issued personal record. If its issuing authority and document type are currently supported, and the document has the required electronic verification feature, the application can assign Digital Attestation. A scanned version of a paper record would not meet that original-digital requirement. (MoFA digital eligibility, as of October 2026.)
This household enters the true issuer, type and destination, uploads the original PDF and reviews the completion option and price. It receives the finished digital document by email or through My Requests. Its cost categories are the attestations included in that selected service, plus any separately required translation or destination-authority attestation. Courier handling is unnecessary for the eligible digital service described by MoFA. (MoFA digital process, as of October 2026.)
Digital or courier: how do you apply?
MoFA assigns the method; the applicant supplies accurate document information. The current service card requires UAE PASS, the UAE's digital identity for signing in, and says non-residents may create an account, as of October 2026. The official application entry opens the sign-in process. (MoFA application rules.)
For a UAE-issued document, the card's sequence is:
- Sign in with UAE PASS and select Attestation Services in the UAE.
- Confirm UAE issuance, then select the actual issuing authority and document type.
- Follow the assigned digital or courier method. For digital processing, enter the country where the document will be used and review the available completion option.
- Supply the required document or collection details, confirm the declaration, review the payable amount, pay and submit.
- Retain the application reference and use the relevant completion channel.

What qualifies for Digital Attestation?
The original digital PDF must come from a supported UAE issuing authority and be a supported document type. It must be clear, complete, unaltered, open correctly, have no password protection and include an electronic verification mechanism, such as a QR code, barcode, link or reference number. A photograph, scan or manually created copy is not an eligible original digital document. (MoFA file requirements, as of October 2026.)
What does the destination option include?
Where offered, the option labelled "Embassy/Consulate of the Selected Destination Country in the UAE" includes MoFA attestation only. Any required attestation by that destination country's embassy or consulate in the UAE is completed separately. The option labelled "UAE Embassy/Consulate in the Selected Destination Country" includes MoFA followed by the responsible UAE mission's attestation. MoFA assigns the responsible UAE mission, including where it covers the destination from another country. (MoFA completion-option explanations, as of October 2026.)
The destination cannot be changed after submission, and the submitted application cannot be edited. These choices affect the attestations included in the payment, so the full option name belongs in the household's application notes. (MoFA submission rules, as of October 2026.)
What happens on the courier route?
The application takes the document owner's name, mobile number, email and required contact and delivery details. The applicant selects an approved courier and preferred collection and delivery schedule, confirms the declaration and pays. The courier then handles delivery of the attested document. The original must meet the language, prior-certification and no-lamination conditions described above. (MoFA courier process, as of October 2026.)
Up to five documents may share one application only when all use the same attestation method, according to the service card, as of October 2026. The first document sets that method. A different-method document requires a separate application. The general FAQ also describes courier-package allowances; those package limits do not replace or enlarge this application rule. (Current application limit, general courier FAQ.)
What does document attestation in Dubai cost?
AED 150 is the FAQ's Individual Affairs Documents attestation charge, not a universal total for preparing and delivering a certificate. Marriage, birth and educational records are included in that category, as of October 2026. (MoFA fee FAQ.)
Source: withlida.com, 20 October 2026, from the MoFA fee FAQ and service-card pricing rules. This is a cost ledger, not an all-inclusive tariff.
The service card says the total payable appears before payment. It depends on document count, completion option and attestations included. Where a selected service already includes a mission attestation, that inclusion must be accounted for before treating another quoted line as additional. (MoFA pricing rules, as of October 2026.)
For the foreign marriage-certificate example, the known FAQ component is AED 150; issuing-country preparation, the applicable mission, any translation and courier handling still need their actual prices and inclusions. No complete numerical total follows from the component alone.
For educational records, MoFA's FAQ treats a certificate and its transcript as two different documents. If each is charged once at the individual-affairs component, AED 150 × 2 = AED 300 for that component alone. This calculation does not price the complete selected route, additional attestations, translation or delivery. (MoFA document classification and fee FAQ, as of October 2026.)
How long does MoFA attestation take?
The current service card gives a digital target within 2 hours during official working hours and an inside-UAE courier range of 1 to 3 business days. Those are service-stage durations, not a complete foreign-document preparation timetable. (MoFA service durations, as of October 2026.)
Source: withlida.com, 20 October 2026, from the MoFA service card, as of October 2026.
For the incoming household's marriage certificate, issuing-country preparation and the applicable mission's arrangements have their own timing. The published ranges cannot simply be added into a universal end-to-end promise. A move calendar can instead record each authority's current estimate, the collection arrangement and the receiving authority's deadline.
How is the attested result retrieved and verified?
Digital results arrive by email or through My Requests; courier results return through the selected provider. MoFA's service card links MOFA Verify as its document-verification destination, as of October 2026. The portal displays Document Status, Verify Document and Application Status. (MoFA retrieval instructions.)
For a digitally attested document, the card says the attestation appears on the last page with its reference number, attestation date, amount paid and verification element. The household's retained file can contain the complete PDF, application reference, payment receipt and completion email. The application reference and the attestation details have distinct uses; preserving both supports status enquiries and later checks. (MoFA result description, as of October 2026.)
For a download problem after the completion email, MoFA directs the applicant to MOFA Verify, Document Status, using the reference number and issue date. If a downloaded file is incomplete or lacks the attestation page, the card says to download the latest complete version again and contact Customer Service if the problem persists. (MoFA download support, as of October 2026.)
What happens if the application is rejected?
A rejected application cannot be amended or reopened; a corrected new application is required. The current service card says the applicant may reapply immediately after addressing the recorded reason, without waiting for the refund process, as of October 2026. (MoFA rejection rules.)
Reasons include mismatched information, an incorrect issuer or document type, an altered or non-original record, unmet requirements, or an eligible digital document submitted through the courier method. The notification identifies the recorded reason. For a disputed rejection, MoFA asks for the application reference, rejection reason, explanation and relevant supporting records or screenshots. (MoFA service card, as of October 2026.)
Refund eligibility follows MoFA's applicable procedures. The service card directs applicants to their application's refund status or Customer Service; it does not establish an automatic refund or a universal deadline here. Support is available through MoFA's official contact channels or 80044444, as of October 2026. (MoFA refund and support guidance.)
FAQs checked: 20 October 2026.
How do I get documents attested in Dubai?
Identify where the document was issued and complete the applicable prior attestations. Use MoFA's official service, enter the actual issuer and type, and follow the assigned method. Foreign-issued documents also follow the applicable UAE-mission process. (MoFA service card, preparation FAQ, as of October 2026.)
How much is the document attestation fee in Dubai?
MoFA's FAQ lists AED 150 for Individual Affairs Documents, including marriage, birth and educational records, as of October 2026. That component does not price the full chain. The selected application's total appears before payment; mission, translation, delivery and additional-attestation scope remain identifiable. (MoFA fee FAQ, service card.)
Can I attest my documents online through MoFA?
Eligible UAE-issued original digital documents for use abroad can be processed entirely online. MoFA assigns the method from the document information; an online application for a paper document can still require courier handling. (MoFA digital and courier rules, as of October 2026.)
Can I self-attest a document online instead of using MoFA?
Adding your own signature to a copy does not perform the MoFA process described here. MoFA's service authenticates signatures and seals through its official application. Its digital route requires an eligible original digital document issued by the competent authority. (MoFA service definition and eligibility, as of October 2026.)
What is the cost of degree certificate attestation for the UAE?
There is no complete country-independent total established here. The FAQ lists the AED 150 individual-affairs component and treats a certificate and transcript as separate documents. Issuing-country preparation, mission attestations, translation and delivery depend on the actual route and quote. (MoFA FAQ, pricing rules, as of October 2026.)
How do I check MoFA attestation status or download the certificate?
Retain the application reference and check the ministry's application status. Completed digital records are available by email or My Requests. For download difficulties after the completion email, the card directs applicants to Document Status at MOFA Verify with the reference and issue date. (MoFA support instructions, MOFA Verify, as of October 2026.)
